From Ostiglia, one of the most important Roman roads, the Via Claudia Augusta, ran north. In Trento, the eastern branch of the Via Claudia (from Venice) joined. The road then led over the Reschen and Fern Passes to the capital of the province of Raetia, "Augusta Vindelicorum" – today's Augsburg.
