The "Baumgartenbrück" restaurant has the best maps in terms of its location. The Europa-Radweg 1 leads right outside the door under old trees. The traffic on the B1 bridge is audible, but the Schwielensee panorama with excursion steamers, paddlers and herons and the spacious terrace make up for it.

The Baumgartenbrücke is a road bridge that leads the Bundesstrasse 1 between Geltow and Petzow over the Potsdamer Havel.

Since 1676 there have been different bridge constructions at this point. First built as a wooden bridge, the first steel arch bridge spanned the Havel from 1909. At the end of the Second World War, on April 30, 1945, soldiers of the Wehrmacht blew up the bridge in order to make the transition more difficult for the approaching Allied troops. After the war, pioneers of the Soviet Army replaced a cable ferry, which was temporarily powered by muscle power, with a wooden bridge. The temporary structure was removed again in 1950 and the fourth Baumgarten Bridge was built from the still preserved trusses of two other destroyed bridges.

The narrow bridge could hardly withstand the growing volume of traffic, especially since its stability was impaired after a tank accident. At the beginning of the 1980s, it was only allowed to drive on one lane with traffic lights. In 1989 it was replaced by a wide, gently curved prestressed concrete bridge.

Fontane was already enthusiastic about this piece of earth and wrote it down on his hikes through the Mark Brandenburg

Beautiful view from the bridge. Interesting is the Schill memorial stone; a revolutionary during the Napoleonic War in the early 18th century.
