The 18-hectare park is under monument and nature protection. Winding hiking trails lead to the banks of the Mulden; the Lourdes grotto with the figure of the Mother Mary is visited by several thousand pilgrims every year. The former Gothic chapel, still in ruins but of great historical value, was stabilized in the spring. An approximately three meter high statue of Mary is in the immediate vicinity.
According to historical tradition, there is a larger open area on the Mulde called Mönchstaufen. The prior of the monastery is said to have been drowned there around 1300 after he wanted to convert the monks back to a monastic life.
The Schönburgers erected a monument for their dogs in the park: a sleeping hunting dog, carved in porphyry, rests on a plinth. Dogs were still buried there in GDR times. The castle park has other small special features that fascinate guests and visitors again and again. A visit in spring, when the wood anemone blooms and the oak meadow lets its colorful diversity shine, is of unique attraction.
The park as a baroque landscaped garden with rare trees, some of which are 180 years old, with historical treasures such as the Lourdes grotto (pilgrimage site), the Marienstätte, the Crodot table and the rest area at the Eulenluft, the level measuring station and winding romantic hiking trails with seating to linger and are worth a visit at any time of the year.
