At the roundabout called Faxatorg, which is located at the eastern end of Skagabraut and Stillholt, you can find the artwork Football Players by Sigurjón Ólafsson (1908-1982). Sigurjón studied house painting and later studied i.a. with Ásgrím Jónsson and Einar Jónsson. He also studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen and in Rome. He received the gold medal of the Art School in Denmark at the time and returned to Iceland at the end of the war in 1945. Sigurjón was one of the pioneers of abstract sculpture in Iceland and worked in stone, iron, clay and wood. Ragnar Jónsson in Smára connected with him like many other artists of his time and was, among other things, his friend. in hand with the building in Laugarnes in Reykjavík. The work must have been completed in the 1940s. It was bought by Akranesbær and set up in 2001, 50 years have passed since Ísróttabandalag Akranes became Iceland's first champion team.
