At the Dvalarheimilð Höfða at Innnesveg is Grettistak by Magnús Tómasson (b. 1943). Magnús made a name for himself as an artist at a young age and will have held his first solo exhibition in the Bogasal of the National Museum at the age of 19, then a student at the Reykjavík School of Education. He studied, among other things, at the Art School in Reykjavík and at the Royal Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. He received a salary from the City of Reykjavík in 1980 and thus became the first City Artist. Grettistak was installed in 1995 and was, among other things, sponsored by the Art Decoration Fund and it was the auctioneer's wish that the artwork reflect the situation and be visually stimulating in the environment. The idea for Grettistak came about when thinking about the generation that is now resting and the hands that have created in this century almost all the structures that the nation has and enjoys today, with ingenuity, magnanimity and toil.
