Beautifully located, nice chapel in a quiet place.
The two benches invite you to linger.

A visit to the small chapel is worthwhile at any time of the year.

" The Chapel of Maria im Bruch is located in a small beech grove on the edge of the Viersen district of Rahser. It is a stone witness to the complications and divine providence that a city like Viersen has had to endure and experience throughout its history.

The story takes us back to World War II: In October 1944, the people of Viersen made a vow that a church would be dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary if God would hold his protective hand over the city. In gratitude for this experienced protection, St. Mary's Church in Hamm was built and consecrated after the war. The vow was thus fulfilled.

Change of location: Pastor Lambertz, the then pastor of St. Notburga, noted that the Rahser district had suffered particularly little damage. He attributed this providence to the The congregation's intercessory prayer and the protection of Mary. He was inspired by the church building in Hamm and wanted to have a small monument of thanksgiving built in Rahser as well. Moreover, there was no chapel or wayside cross in Rahser at the time.

From then on, door collections were held during services for the construction of a Chapel of Mary, and on May 1, 1952, the foundation stone of the "Maria im Bruch" Chapel was laid. One year later, on May 1, 1953, the chapel was consecrated during a solemn May devotion.

Since then, the chapel has been an invitation to prayer. It is a silent expression of thanks and an indirect source of encouragement for rays of hope in dark times… even today. "
