The French Road is an approx. 70 km long medieval trade and military road between Bebra and Kassel. From Bebra it runs on the western and eastern variants. The western leads past the cemetery and Neumannsruh over the ridge between the Hasel and Bebra valleys, along the Betteleiche and on to the ridge between Erkshausen and Rittershain, where it joins the eastern Franzosenstraße near the K50 at the "Schwarzen Stock". From there, the Höhenweg continues in the direction of Spangenberg. The name derives either from the French troops that passed through here during the war or from the name "Wrosenstraße" for a road covered with grass.

Beautiful section of the route at the top, view towards Haseltal or Alheimer.

The Franzenstraße is an approximately 70 kilometer long, idyllic forest and hiking trail that runs mainly through forest landscapes from Kassel to Bebra and hardly comes into contact with modern road construction.
It is marked throughout with a white “F”.
It is often referred to in records as the “Hessian Rennsteig”.
