    Kellergasse, Etsdorf / Nö
    Description of the press houses/Kellergasse
The Kellergasse is located in a ditch, the two rows of cellars are raised above the country road on both sides and are accompanied by two mostly unpaved paths. The continuous shady planting of walnut trees and acacias on the embankment to the country road and the coordinated forecourts and seating areas contribute to the harmonious overall character. The supply of electricity and water is provided by the local water pipe and sewer connection.
Many winegrowers have continuously renovated their traditional wine storage facilities with care and a feel for original building methods. The press houses of the hobby winemakers consist of a parlor, a spacious press house with a tree press and a long vault. The entrance to the cellar vineyard is on the side. The press houses of the company winemakers have been adapted inside for wine production or adapted as a Heurigen restaurant.
At the entrance to the Kellergasse, you will come across the sculpture of the “Weinberggeiß”, which was erected in 1981 and carries a heavy load of colorful vines on its back. It is a distinctive feature of the Kellergasse and is now considered the secret landmark of the town.
In geological terms, Etsdorf has mainly clay soils, which can store moisture well. In addition, there are also some lighter gravel or sandy soils. The white wine selection clearly predominates with Grüner Veltliner and Riesling varieties, while Zweigelt dominates the red wine sector.
At Kellergasse 6 is the Wittmann House, built by the Austrian architect Johannes Spalt in 1970-1975 for the furniture manufacturer Wittmann and completely renovated in 2016-2017, which is one of the most important Austrian architectural creations after 1945.
