Our Sidney Street, Cambridge is fine example of neo-gothic architecture. The current premises opened in 1894.

They were designed by Alfred Waterhouse, who is best-known for the Natural History Museum in London. He also designed Manchester Town Hall and Strangeways Prison.

The branch had first opened 90 years earlier in 1804 in Bridge Street, as the private bank of Foster & Company. It later moved to new premises in Trinity Street, a 16th century building that had once been a pub called 'The Turk's Head'. As an extra security precaution, three junior members of staff lived on-site. Each night, one of them slept in the strongroom with only a rusty sword for protection.

      Cambridge branch, 1928
Foster & Co. was taken over by Capital & Counties in 1904, which was, in turn, taken over by Lloyds in 1918.
