"The hand Jacquard loom is one of the first computers in the world. Don't believe it? Then pay attention: In 1805, Joseph-Marie Jacquard invented the mechanical control for it in Lyon and thus the first automatic loom was created. It was "programmed" with punch cards and thus made a decisive contribution to the industrial revolution. Weavers could now produce endless, complex patterns repeatedly.
