Three towers, connected by a footbridge, conceal the mechanisms of the lock, and the whole thing is placed on a striking colonnade – it can also be perceived as a symbolic triumphal arch, although the present structure, as is usually the case for this type of building, was not erected in honor of any heroic deeds or historical event, but rather in honor of water. Another masterpiece by the great architect Jože Plečnik.
