Neudenstein Castle (Slovenian: Črni Grad) stands on a rocky cone above the northern shore of the Völkermarkt reservoir in the municipality of Völkermarkt. Because of its dark walls, the complex is also known as the "Black Castle". The Slovene name of the castle also refers to this.

The castle was built in 1329 under Konrad von Auffenstein. The walls of the south and east wings from this period are still preserved. Due to an uprising in which the Auffensteiners were also involved, the castle fell to the Carinthian dukes in 1368, who successively handed over the castle to loyalists, including the Himmelbergers, the Lords of Graben, the Plumeggers, the Windisch-Graetz, the Kemetters and the Mandorff. In the 16th century, renovations and additions were probably made under Ursula Plumegger. In the second half of the 17th century, the castle underwent another transformation under the Kemeter family. The Carinthian landscape painter Gilbert von Canal lived here at the beginning of the 20th century, and some of his works are still in the castle today. In 1970 the Comelli-Stuckenfeld family acquired the facility.
