A monument to the legendary, fictional character of Stary Marych (a typical Poznań citizen who speaks the Poznań dialect), created by Juliusz Kubel for the needs of the Poznań Polish Radio station. Marian Pogasz read radio plays and it is his face that the monumental Stary Marych has.

The idea of erecting the monument was conceived in the circles of the Poznań editorial office of "Gazeta Wyborcza" in 1998. It was then that a decision was made to announce a plebiscite under the title Poznaniak na kokół! Out of many characters (including Cyryl Ratajski, Edward Raczyński, Wiktor Dega), Stary Marych was chosen in an open vote – the only proposed fictional character. The author of the project was an artist from Poznań, raised in Łazarz - Robert Sobociński. The unveiling took place on March 21, 2001 at the northern end of ul. Półwiejska in the city center. It was the 90th anniversary of the birth of Stanisław Strugarek - the popularizer of the Poznań dialect, the first day of spring and the official opening of the bicycle season. The sculpture shows Marych leading a bicycle (with a traditional Poznań portfolio hanging over the handlebars), from the side of the so-called Ceglorz (Zaklady Cegielskiego), towards the center.

The place where the monument was set up perfectly matched the streams of pedestrians following the promenade (Polwiejska Street). The sculpture is a popular place to take commemorative photos from Poznań.

I don't think they'll ever let a boy in these lanes.
