Hiking
This monument, made of local boulders and flanked by two cannons, was erected in 1929 to commemorate the residents of Hermanus who died in World War I. The plaque on the monument lists 11 names of those who died in World War I. Later, the names of 15 soldiers who died in World War II were added, including that of Robert Bushell. He was one of the masterminds of "The Great Escape"; the escape of 73 prisoners of war from Stalag Luft III. Fifty of them were shot after being captured on Hitler's orders.
