In the 19th century, this tree species was common in Klerken. Until before the First World War, the Perelaarommegang took place in the village, where residents sold their pears to fairground visitors. In the 1960s and 1970s, the Perelaarommegang took place again. In the meantime, the village is once again following that tradition, and there are only a few of these pear trees left. Fortunately, one of the oldest specimens (102 years old) could be saved from the hood and became tree of the year 2022.
