Whitley Bay Beach boasts a golden sand shoreline, stretching northwards from the town towards St Mary's Lighthouse. This Blue Flag-accredited beach is a popular destination for both walkers and recreational activities. The promenade and The Links offer scenic walks with the beach as a backdrop. The annual sandcastle competition attracts both locals and visitors, particularly families with children.
