The Noorderbegraafplaats is the oldest cemetery in Hilversum and was inaugurated in 1929. The cemetery was designed by the architect Dudok, who is also buried in the geographical heart of the cemetery. There is a huge variety of trees and shrubs.
When entering the cemetery you walk along the Berlage pond. The monumental avenues with rows of trees guide you from the open central field to the various fields. The small cemeteries are framed by green hedges and upright plants. From the auditorium you can look out over the green core of the cemetery.
