Historical significance: The two parks, Hluhluwe and iMfolozi, were merged in 1989. A provincial road still separates the two park halves, but there are no longer any dividing fences. The park now covers 96,000 hectares and, in addition to the Big 5 (elephant, lion, leopard, rhinoceros, and buffalo), is home to a large number of other large animals such as giraffes, antelope, and zebras, as well as many smaller animals.
