The six-span steel truss bridge was built from 2011 to 2013 and opened in 2014.
In 2016 it received the German Bridge Construction Prize in the foot and cycle path bridges category. With a total length of 456 meters, it is one of the longest pedestrian and cycle path bridges in Europe.

The bridge has a cathedral character. The optical tunnel effect results from the complicated construction. Because almost nothing is straight on the bridge. For example, the wooden plank floor made of larch wood: It measures 5.50 meters each near the shore and tapers to the center of the bridge at 3.80 meters at its narrowest point. In addition, the steel truss structure is inclined inwards, which further enhances the spatial effect. The light gray, almost white-looking corrosion paint has been chosen carefully because it harmonises well with the beams of the neighboring railway bridge.
