The Malaspina di Gambaro Castle was built by Ghisello, son of the Marquis Pietro, who owned this portion of the family estate. In 1520 it was precisely in this castle that Ghisello was assassinated by his relatives.
The Malaspinas received the feudal investiture of Torrio (in Val d'Aveto) and Noceto (near Gambaro, in Val Nure) in 1423. Later this feud was commonly called degli Edifizi, from the name of the locality near Gambaro.
