The origin lies in the activities of the Hamburg merchant and shipowner Edmund Siemers, who donated a sanatorium for ill-tuberculosis patients to his hometown of Hamburg. Suitable conditions were found in Geesthacht, which at that time belonged to Hamburg. In 1898 the construction of the Thekla House began. Until 1911, other houses were u.a. built the Susannenhaus.
