The Hamburg terminal, built in 1993 in the Billwerder district, is an important interface for the handling of loading units between road and rail as well as for national and international transfer traffic between freight trains. Thanks to its network-forming function, the Hamburg-Billwerder terminal links various traffic and routes operated by operators from southern Europe to Scandinavia, sometimes with over 20 direct trains per day. With its infrastructure and technical equipment, it is one of the most modern terminals in Europe.
