Banyalbufar, which is nestled on the steep slopes of the Tramuntana, is famous for its steep terraces that stretch up the mountain like a patchwork of stone walls. The first terraces were built in the 10th century and were originally used to grow wine and olives, which could only be cultivated in this way in the barren environment.
