This forest complex south of Jabbeke with its typical block-shaped driveway pattern was created on the barren heathland at the time of Napoleon. Now numerous plants and animals find shelter in the forest, the pools and the hay meadows. Children can go to De Speelplekke and the play forest, a wonderful piece of play nature!

The Maskobos behind the new cemetery of Jabbeke forms an offshoot of the large Vloethemveld area.

During the 18th century, these areas were reclaimed and straight beech lanes were built in them. The tree floor consists mainly of old summer oaks, birch and beech. Below you will find sweet chestnut, American oak, mountain ash and sporkehout in the shrubbery. In the herb layer, it is mainly the blackberry that has the say, but the spiny fern and the rare bileaf are also common. Honeysuckle, false sage and pipe straw can be found on the dry forest edges. Elderberry, willow, alder and meadowsweet are more common on the wet forest sides. In addition to the general bird species, the following species can be observed: woodcock, black cap, garden warbler, green and great spotted woodpecker, goldcrest, tree pipit and treecreeper, kestrel, buzzard and sparrow hawk.
