A beautiful gatehouse with moat. Leave from there private.

Gelting Castle is behind the gatehouse, unfortunately not open to the public

Gut Gelting (also called Gelting Castle), surrounded by a moat, is one of the oldest fishing estates at 800 years and gives its name to the municipality. After the castle changed several times between aristocratic and Danish-royal ownership, it was bought in 1758 by the merchant Sönke Ingwersen from Langenhorn in North Frisia.

The following year he was raised to the Danish aristocracy under the title of "Baron von Geltingen". Göning flourished under the hand of Sönke Ingwersen and became one of the most beautiful castles in our country. He had the courtyard and the mansion redesigned in the Dutch style to create a worthy home. The two-story mansion is built in the form of a three-wing complex. The east wing with its round corner tower dates from 1470 while the west wing was built in 1680.

The middle building with its high double hipped roof and the large Dutch sliding windows with rich rung division was built in 1772. In 1925 a chapel was built in the Gelting castle. The altar room is on the lower floor of the medieval tower and the actual chapel room in the adjoining rooms of the east wing.

In 1820 the Levin L.C.L. von Hobe, the descendant of Sönke Ingwersen's daughter and the official Andreas August von Hobe, became the third Baron von Gelting. A year later he received the title of a Danish baron under the name Von Hobe baron von Gelting. The manor house is privately owned by the barons of Hobe-Gelting and is not accessible to visitors.
