St. Michael's Church (1863) - Bensheim 🚴♂️The Protestant St. Michael's Church in Bensheim was completed in 1863. It is a listed cultural monument. Plans for the construction of the first Protestant church in Bensheim were drawn up by district architect Michael Mittermayer as early as 1846. However, construction did not begin until fourteen years later, based on new plans by the same architect. The plans envisioned a cruciform central structure with an octagonal dome and a lateral tower. On October 14, 1860, the crossing vault collapsed during construction of the church. Construction could not continue until the spring of 1862, after Mittermayer's successor, district architect Christian Horst, had made significant changes to the plans. St. Michael's Church was ceremoniously consecrated on November 10, 1863. 🚴♂️rhein-neckar-wiki.de/Michaelskirche_(Bensheim)
