Nice and handsome - at least I liked it when I walked by.

Almost nothing reliable is known about the life of St. George, to whom the Stolberg chapel was dedicated, but the veneration of his person goes way back to early Christianity. A martyr identified with George is said to have lived in the third century.
On the other hand, the legend of Saint George slaying the dragon is well known and widespread. He is usually depicted – in paintings or as a statue – as the conqueror of the monster, often as a knight on horseback.
The memorial day of the very popular George - he is, among other things, the patron saint of the English kingdom - in the calendar of saints is on April 23rd.

The Protestant chapel in Niedergasse served as a place of worship for the nearby Georgen Hospital. The small church was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt in its present form in 1892 on the old foundation walls. The sandstone facade is well worth seeing. You will find a war memorial in front of the chapel.
