Rossano is located a few kilometers from the coast of the Ionian Sea, on a hill surrounded by olive groves and citrus groves. The town has a long history dating back to Roman and Byzantine times, and is known in particular for the diocesan museum and the Codex, which houses the Purple Code, one of the oldest evangeliaries in the world.

Embark on a challenging touring bicycle journey with the Rossano to the Giants of Cozzo del Pesco Loop. This difficult 24.9 miles (40.0 km) route, featuring a substantial 3819 feet (1164 metres) of elevation gain, guides you through extraordinary landscapes in the heart of Greek Sila. You will cycle past dense holly oak forests, ancient olive groves, and vibrant orange groves, with the highlight being the Natural Oasis of the Giants of Cozzo del Pesco. Expect to complete this demanding ride in approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes.

This loop is classified as a hard road ride, requiring very good fitness from cyclists. While much of the route is well-paved, be prepared for some unpaved and difficult sections where you might need to push your bike. A particularly demanding descent with ruts and potentially overgrown vegetation awaits between kilometers 9 and 11, making this trail best suited for experienced riders. Plan accordingly for these challenging segments.

The route takes you through the Oasi naturalistica dei Giganti di Cozzo del Pesco, home to 102 monumental chestnut trees, some over 700 years old with circumferences up to 12 meters. These ancient giants offer a unique natural spectacle. Additionally, you will pass the historic Abbey of Santa Maria del Patire, adding a significant cultural landmark to your touring bicycle adventure. This combination of natural wonder and historical depth makes the trail a standout experience in the region.
