The water pours into the fountain from the Lippe rose, which has been part of the city's coat of arms and seal since the city was founded. The coats of arms of the former Lippstadt sovereigns are shown below. Nine movable bronze figures represent people from Lippstadt's more than 800-year history.

The figures show Bernhard II (nobleman zur Lippe), Friedrich the Great (King of Prussia), Mayor Friedrich Bertram, Amalie Elisabeth (Von Hessen-Kassel), Dr. Johannes Westermann (reformer), Simplizius Simplizissimus (fictional character), as well as the merchant, the farmer's wife and the tanner (as important groups of citizens in the city).

The fountain is a symbol of real citizenship, as it was financed solely by donations. The Aachen artist Bonifatius Stirnberg created it for the 800th anniversary of the city in 1985.
