From the first construction phase of the St. Nicolai Church in Lippstadt, only the bell tower from the 12th century has been preserved. This initially functioned as a defense tower. The single and double arched windows, which are still predominantly Romanesque, are the only decorative elements of the otherwise rather massive tower. It houses the city's three oldest bells, which date back to the 13th century.
On the other hand, the three-nave hall church and the choir room come from the second construction phase (1872) and are characterized by the neo-Gothic style. The new building became necessary due to dilapidation. In 1891 the church was consecrated by the auxiliary bishop of Paderborn.
One of the most important elements in the interior is the organ with 3815 pipes. It has been restored and rebuilt several times and has existed in its current form since 2005.Author: Editorial office baukust-nrwSource: baukunst-nrw.de/objects/Nicolai-Kirche-Lippstadt--1556.htm
