A hike along the 'Eisenweg', which is quite steep and narrow in places (good shoes are required!) and is marked with an 'E' means encountering relics from almost 2,000 years of history in the forests around Imsbach. The rock, called rhyolite, on which the path was laid is even unimaginably older: 290 million years ago magma welled up from great depths and formed the mountain that we call Donnersberg today. It was only long after it was installed that what people have been extracting from the mountain for a good 2,000 years, namely iron ore, came into being.
