The rocks are part of a basalt dike that filled a crack in the softer Cretaceous deposits during the volcanic activity of the Tertiary Age. In later times, due to the gradual action of the weather, the surrounding sandstone was removed and the basalt dike was carved out as a few rock walls that protruded above the surrounding terrain. With their horizontal four- to six-sided columns, the Jánské kamy represent a less perfect analogy to the well-known Čertova zeď (Devil's Wall) near Český Dub (Bohemian Aicha).
The basalt dike stretches from the summit of Jánské Kameny in a roughly westerly direction to the village of Valy (Schanzendorf). On the surface it consists of a series of isolated rocks of different sizes, only three of which are larger in size. The most striking feature is a 23 m long rock wall on the summit, to which a restaurant was built in the 19th century. The rock is 2-4 m thick and its ridge gradually rises from the earth's surface to its summit with a viewing platform built at a height of about 10 m. A second rock wall of approximately the same size stands on the adjacent slope and a third rock is also located on a wooded hill (589 m) about 150 m further to the west. A nature trail, less than 1 km long, runs along the rocks and was opened on November 25, 2006. It begins on the road from Krompach to Hain and has four display boards dedicated to history, geological structure, local flora and reptiles.

When the weather is nice you have a good view of the Lausche and also of the Oybin.
