The Loch of Skene is a medium sized freshwater loch. It was artificially enlarged by partially damming the outflow. The loch was used to power the tweed mill downstream, but this stopped in 1906. Since then, the water has been used to generate electricity.
It is designated as an SSSI for the wildlife in the area.
