In the past, an eleven meter high obelisk with four bronze medallions formed the center of the square. Erected in 1897, the monument was the second monument to Kaiser Wilhelm I in Bavaria. With the reliefs by Bismarck and Moltke, it also celebrated the wars of unification and the founding of the German Empire in 1870/71. After the Second World War, the obelisk was removed and the "Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz" was renamed "Lorlebergplatz".
