Askrigg is a beautiful little historic village and a real treat to hike through, as it has one long main street that's lined with houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Very quaint, with two pubs, tea rooms, a bakery and a little shop, as well as few B&Bs.

Lovely place to stay when walking in the dales. Love the pubs. Skeldale House from All Creatures Great And Small is now a fantastic B&B

A great base for cycling and walking with stunning routes from the village itself and many more within easy access by car or the famous 'Little White Bus' (not all little white buses are white...). The three village pubs are all quite distinct and are all excellent. The village also boasts its own micro-brewery yorkshiredalesbrewery.com & the beers are frankly outstanding!
In addition to the pubs, there are café stops at The Bake-well and at Sykes House. Both provide delicious food from local sources. Sykes House also provides the village shop, which is well stocked with essentials.
On Wednesdays, the house of local artists Rob (Nick) Nicholls & Judith Bromley is open for visits. Their work is distinctive & well executed, focussing mainly on local Dales subjects. - highly recommended. There are a couple of other craft shops too.
Also on Wednesdays, Ramsey's mobile fish & chip van visits from around 4:30 until 6:00 pm. As much a social occasion as a gustatory one!
Very much permanent is St. Oswald's church, parts of which date back to the 14th century! A beautiful church in a beautiful location. Listen for the bell ringers practicing.
Askrigg is a great place. Not just a visitor centre but a working village. Please visit. Enjoy & respect the place & you will be rewarded with great memories & tired legs!
