Whoever heads for this point stands on a mountain, all Royal Saxon triangulation stations stand on hilltops.
Station No. 108 Ballendorf is a second order station of the triangular network of the Royal Saxon Triangulation. In the 19th century, the optical measuring devices were fixed on the monolith in order to locate other stations for surveying purposes. Most of these technical monuments are still preserved and as they all stand on hilltops they always offer a great view of Saxony as a destination.
From this station the stations of the 1st order No. 17 (Rochlitz), as well as the stations of the 2nd order No. 100 (Kreuz), No. 107 (Deditzhöhe), No. 109 (Frauenberg), No. 116 (Crossen), No. 118 (Blumroda and No. 119 (Sahlis) targeted. The Saxon triangle network is considered a technical masterpiece of degree measurement, it was the most precise land surveying in Europe at its time. Unfortunately, especially in western Saxony, some of the monuments are no longer available Station invites a bank to rest.
This station is on the "Goldene Höhe" in Ballendorf. This is followed by a network of forest paths, which are reminiscent of cross-routes thanks to the forestry recovery of wood from the last two storms. However, some of the paths have already been repaired.
