The clay factory was built in the course of industrialization and is now a biotope.

In 1875, the clay factory was built north of the Holzkirchen – Rosenheim railway line after the Kolbermoor spinning mill. It was first a brick factory for roof and wall tiles, later a concrete roof panel factory and then a corrugated sheet factory until production ended in 1987.

The approximately 25 hectare area was renatured, the clay pit was no longer pumped out and the pond filled up and plants and animals gradually appeared. Today, the Tonwerkweiher is a popular local recreation area with walking paths with different entrances, a teaching apiary and impressive rubbish bins, forged during the well-known Blacksmith Biennale.
