Bike Touring Highlight
The Tonwerk was built in the course of industrialization and is now a biotope. In 1875 the Tonwerk was built north of the Holzkirchen - Rosenheim railway line after the Kolbermoor spinning mill. It was first a brick and tile factory, later a concrete roof tile factory and then a corrugated tile factory until production ended in 1987. The approximately 25-hectare area was renatured, the clay pit was no longer pumped out and the ponds and plants were filled up and animals gradually appeared. Today, the Tonwerk pond is a popular local recreation area with walking paths with different accesses, an apiary and impressive waste baskets, forged during the famous Blacksmith's Biennial.
