The Old St. Nicholas Church is part of the famous ensemble on Frankfurt's Römerberg. Visitors enjoy its harmonious carillon with 47 bells.
The small church building probably served as the royal palace chapel of the Hohenstaufen royal palace before 1200. The first documented mention dates from September 24, 1264. The palace chapel could have been the site of royal elections, as well as court and imperial diets.
The church was consecrated to Saint Nicholas of Bari in 1290. Later, the church was used as a council church and, after it was extended, received a Gothic roof gallery (1476) from which the councilors watched the various festivities.

Inside there are two important gravestones: the gravestone of Siegfried zum Paradies and the gravestone of Katharina Netheha zum Wedel. Both made by Madern Gerthener (1410/1420).

The late Gothic Alte Nikolaikirche is a Protestant church in the old town of Frankfurt am Main. Its namesake is Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of fishermen. It is located near the Main on Römerberg and is known beyond Frankfurt as part of a characteristic ensemble. The building, which was founded in the middle of the 12th century as a court chapel, dates back to the 15th century in its current appearance and, as one of Frankfurt's eight endowed churches, has been used as a place of worship by the Evangelical Paulsgemeinde since 1949

The "Alte Nikolaikirche" is located on Frankfurt's Römerberg near the town hall. It was built in 1150 and renovated and rebuilt several times. It was rebuilt in 1951 after being destroyed in World War II. The core and a portal sculpture from the 13th century are still old. Also some epitaphs.
