Bird watching in the water-rich Starrevlak
One of the attractions in the Wimmenummer dunes is the Starrevlak. It used to be a landscape with dune lands until it was transformed in 2001 into a wet natural oasis with puddles, pools and damp valleys. An old NAM gas extraction station was also given back to nature and involved in the area. The Starrevlak has since quickly developed as an interesting place for bird watching, from the walking path around the lake or from the bird hide. Floating on the water are, among others, little grebe, gadwall, shoveler, tufted duck, mute swan and Canada goose. In the thickets around the pond, you have a chance to see woodlark, bramble-wren, stonechat and grasshopper warbler. The bluethroat with its striking colors and exuberant song is also spotted during the breeding season.

The Vogelkijkhut De Vlieger is located in De Wimmenummerduinen, accessible from Egmond aan Zee. Next to the former town hall, take the entrance to the Kerdijk dune area. Here you follow the walking path marked with the green-white posts. After a kilometer you will come across two nature restoration projects on the Starrevlak.

Nice vantage point, but unfortunately not always birds can be seen. We were unlucky...

The train path to the observation hut is currently completely flooded and unfortunately not accessible🤷🏻‍♀️
It will probably take a few dry days.../03/20/1924

We almost passed this hut. It's a bit hidden
