The city's oldest church, dating from 1150, contains remarkable art-historical evidence: Gothic wall paintings that were only discovered and uncovered in 1946, after the war damage caused by Allied bombs. They had been whitewashed for centuries.

    Info from: pfenz.de/wiki/Altstadtkirche_(Pforzheim)
The earliest documented mention of the church is from 1385. The name refers to the Franconian bishop St. Martin of Tours and thus to the church's origins in the Franconian-Carolingian period in the 7th to 9th centuries. All parts of the building that are still visible today are certainly younger. The oldest part is probably the choir from around 1350.

Mother church of Pforzheim and the surrounding area, first mentioned in a document in 1159.
The tympanum of the west portal, choir arch and wall pillars of the central nave arcades date from this period. Choir around 1340 with important late Gothic wall paintings around 1430.
Nave from 1823, west tower from 1874.
Destroyed by bombs in 1945, except for the outer walls.
    Reconstruction completed in 1954.
