This is the old coach road which used to run between Macclesfield and Buxton. It's still clad in its 18th century road surface, so it's pretty easy going on a mountain bike.
The road's been there a lot longer than that, though. It's since been superseded for auto traffic by the A537, which is less steep.

Tried this with my friend who was on a road bike 25mm tires. I was on a gravel bike 43mm tires. Both of us had to carry our bikes for some amount of the way. Probably best with mountain bikes. Or a gravel bike with 650b wheels 47mm and front suspension! Avoid with normal road bikes.

Riding from the Cat & Fiddle it starts off being an easy ride, but as you start to descend towards Buxton you need to pick out your route as riding a Gravel bike it gets a bit sketchy. More suited to a full sus MTB. You can ride it all on a gravel bike just take it easy.
