Thanks to its striking architecture, the Feskekörka is one of Gothenburg's landmarks. The name "Feskekörka" is the Gothenburg dialect for "Fiskekyrkan," or "Fish Church."
The Feskekörka was inaugurated in 1874. It was designed by Gothenburg's then city architect, Victor von Gegerfelt. With its characteristic pointed-arch windows and a structure without partition walls or columns, the market hall was a state-of-the-art building for its time.

The Feskekörka has been closed for three years. It is being renovated. In the course of 2024 it should reopen as a fish market hall.

Because the pointed arches of the hall, built in 1874, are reminiscent of a church, the people of Gothenburg also call the Fish Hall the Fish Church (Feskekörka). After the renovation in 2020, there is now a wine bar here with delicacies and, of course, fish sales. There is also an outdoor terrace on the water.
