Hiking Highlight
The high medieval castle Munzenberg is one of the most outstanding castle fortifications in Germany. It was expanded in the second half of the 12th century and in the 13th century. Although the castle was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, its ruins are still extremely authentically preserved. With its two characteristic towers, it forms an important landmark in the Wetterau. The city of Munzenberg, which forms a unitary content with the castle, has also been preserved in an unusually authentic way.

The castle itself is well worth seeing, the hike is more of a long walk mostly on paved paths. The view is very nice.

The castle ruins are a landmark in the Wetterau that can be seen from afar. Münzenberg is also the namesake of the line of the same name of the Counts of Hanau.
