I would never have expected something like that up here. Crazy. 💈

The sundial, which is around 3,000 square meters in size, is located on the south plateau (140 meters). A stainless steel obelisk with a height of 8.65 meters and a weight of 1.5 tons acts as a pointer. Its shadow lines make it possible to read the date and time on the circular plane with a diameter of 62 meters. 🧭

The almost nine meter high, steel obelisk casts its shadow on the horizontal plateau, the approximately 3000 square meter paved plain at the south-east tip of the Hoheward heap.

Day and season lines form the “dance floor” on the specially paved shade area. The shadow of the obelisk ball moves when the sun is shining and shows us the true local time and the current date based on the position of the sun. This horizontal sundial made of star-shaped hour lines and curved date lines follows pre-Christian models from ancient Rome.

The course of the sun, the change of day and night and the phenomenon of time can be experienced with the senses here, complemented by a fabulous panorama over the central Ruhr metropolis.
