On Roman Ruins. On the Wilden Ley, remains of walls have come to light in places on the edge of the slope, which may have been part of the fortification of the Nahekopf in Roman times. The remains of Celtic fortifications still await archeological research here. Walls were only uncovered in the area of the gate and adjacent to it. The settlement on the Nahekopf is probably a Celtic castellum. These seats of regional princes, described by Caesar, were mostly built in line of sight to comparable facilities in order to have a signal possibility in an emergency. From this point you can see the medieval tower of the Wildenburg. There was also a Celtic rampart, which was also inhabited in Roman times. Source: text information board
