The artificial lake was born from gravel mining that began in 1957 and was finally stopped in 2004. The approximately 47-hectare body of water is almost 1.3 kilometers long at its longest point and has a width of about 550 meters. The gravelly and mostly vegetation-free bottom of the lake is almost contourless and has a few shallow water zones on the south and east sides and an almost uniform depth of about 47 meters.
