Top cycling routes to Peenemünde Power Plant

Tips

  • Decommissioned coal-fired power plant, built in early 1940 to supply the energy needed for oxygen production in the Army Research Institute. In the GDR, it was a completely "normal" power plant, which was shut down in 1990.

  • A highlight in Peenemünde. Really impressive is the large stone building which has been conquered by nature.

  • We were already in Peenemünde the day before - and were quite disappointed.
The display boards told a lot, but often only a concrete block was visible or the whole thing was overgrown. If you wanted to see something, it was almost always "hidden" in museums - and an extra entrance fee had to be paid for each. Too bad. I've already seen other places in German history on the green strip.
