Nearby there are more interesting buildings with an ancient history

One of the most striking historic houses in the town of Rotenburg is the old bailiff's office in Steinweg. The house was built in 1555, as the inscription "When they counted thousand five hundred and fifty five because the world was so unfaithful, I gave birth to Joh. von Razenbergk's house". Decorative framework with carved fan rosettes indicate a master builder from Lower Saxony. A special feature is the small oriel that sits on the wall to the Steinweg. Ratzenberg was bailiff of Sontra and Rotenburg and served under Landgrave Philip the Magnanimous. Around 1630 the building became the Landvogtei (administrative and court seat), today it is privately owned.

Next to the "Stone House", the "Old Vogtei" is the most striking building in Steinweg.

The bailiwick consists of a solid two-storey basement and a multi-storey half-timbered upper storey with Weser Renaissance motifs.
It was built in 1555 as a private house for the local bailiff (today comparable to the district administrator). From around 1600, the house was owned by Landgrave Moritz. It was later set up as a bailiwick (administrative and judicial seat), and since 1880 the house has been privately owned again.
