The former inscription is no longer visible. Since the path on which the stone stands forms the district boundary between the town of Bad Kreuznach and the local community of Frei-Laubersheim, it can be assumed that the stone marked the former border between the Kingdom of Prussia and the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt.
